Roaster · Portland, OR
13 lots in stock, mostly Brazil, Colombia and Ethiopia.
Coverage is below 50%. Available roaster-level evidence comes from Reddit and YouTube. Per-lot evidence from SCA grades, Coffee Review entries, and public on-shop product ratings is limited across the catalog. With limited signal, scores are also pulled toward a neutral 50 baseline by the Cherrybook Index methodology, so lots can read flatter than the actual cup quality differences between them. The average Cherrybook Index therefore leans more heavily on roaster-level reputation than per-lot quality.

Per-lot signals (averaged)
Vary across lots; averaged over 13 in-stock lots.
Bonuses earned (per lot)
Base components are renormalized over whatever signals are available for each lot. SCA + Coffee Review are capped at 40% combined to keep the cupping story from dominating. Bonuses (accolades, awards, editorial coverage) and freshness decay are applied on top.

Six independent Reddit threads give Coava a strongly favorable but not uniform picture. Repeat buyers described consistently excellent, sweet, and memorable coffees, while one brewer had an incredible first cup followed by inconsistent results.
I find Coava to be pretty consistent and they ship right after they roast. I live about 45 minutes from Portland now so shipping is easiest for me. Case Study was always my go to when I lived in the city.

Outside coverage portrays Coava Coffee as a foundational Portland roaster deeply focused on direct producer relationships, single-origin offerings, and educational outreach regarding supply chain transparency. Reviewers and industry partners frequently highlight their engineering contributions to specialty brewing gear, such as the Coava Kone filter, alongside versatile roast profiles suited for both drip and espresso.
